How long will it take me to become fluent?

There is no definitive answer to this question. It may take as little as six months for some and others may never reach a comfortable level of fluency. The following should assist you in determining what might be involved in your journey in becoming fluent.

Time to fluency largely depends on four things:

1. Prior amount of exposure to foreign languages;

2. Quality and dedication of study;

3. Amount of practice in the field through immersion experiences;

Examples:
Travel abroad;
Working or volunteering amongst speakers of your target language;
Meeting with others to converse (i.e. www.meetup.com);
Dining and interacting in authentic restaurants;
Attending religious services in your target language;
Listening to music in your target language.

4. The sheer ability to absorb foreign languages.

The real key to becoming fluent is establishing a healthy cycle of habits which include seeking professional instruction, studying privately and implementing/practicing through immersion.  A student who can take advantage of these things on a regular basis will do well in their studies and enjoy the full offering of their target language/culture.

Does the course fee include books and printed materials?

The course fee solely covers instruction. All courses are subject to a printed materials that range from $5.00 to $10.00. Additionally, some but not all of our courses require a textbook and/or a work book which may add up to as little as $25.00 or as high as $75.00.

What happens if the class does not meet the minimum enrollment?

The class itself automatically postpones its start date by a minimum of two weeks; however, the class will maintain the same day and time (i.e. Tuesday at 5:30PM). If you’ve paid for class you have the opportunity to do one of three things, 1) to take a full refund 2) leave your registration and payment on file while you are waiting for your class to meet the minimum enrollment 3) You may also select another course that runs at another day and time.

What happens if I miss a class?

Similar to any university all students are expected to attend class weekly. Any classes that are missed and must be made up will be setup as private lessons that will be charged at the rate of $45.00/hr. Alternatively, if there is another comparable class available you may catchup your time with other available classes.

Can I get a refund?

Once a course confirms by meeting its minimum enrollment there will be no opportunity for a refund. If this idea causes you to hesitate please read the following items:

Note: If for any reason AILI (The Atlanta International Language Institute) decides to offer a refund through its own discretion the refund may be subject to an inconvenience fee of up to 25.00%.

What are the students’ responsibilities?

Student responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attending class;
  • Studying independently of the class;
  • Completing the assigned homework;
  • Requesting clarification from the instructor when he/she is not clear;
  • Notifying the teacher if you are struggling with particular material.

Do courses require homework?

Yes. All courses will likely require a light load of thirty minutes to an hour weekly. However, students should study and practice aside from class (see “How long does it take to become fluent? ”).

What is a free demo?

A free demo is the opportunity to visit the language school and have one free hour of private instruction. This allows the student to get a feel for the instructor’s teaching style, the caliber of the language school itself and also provide the students the opportunity to ask questions of the instructor. Note: Free demos are not available in all languages.

What is a free observation?

A free observation is the opportunity to visit a current class at no charge. This allows the student to get a feel for the instructor’s teaching style, the caliber of the language school itself and also provide the students the opportunity to ask questions of the instructor before or after class.
